Pandora's Box

It's time for a new challenge with the Beyond the Burtonesque Dolls! Since it is the 3rd Thursday of the month, this is our altered challenge. So what do you have to do this time around? Well, our challenge is Pandora's Box. So please make a project with a box. You can make the box yourself, or use a store bought one that you can alter. But be sure to keep it creepy!

I know we all somethings feel like someone has opened Pandora's box,
like all the craziness in the world is taking over.
So I decided to make my box creepy but fun.

Creepy

Fun

I painted an old cigar box and decorated the outside with
a single skull and purple roses. The inside is filled with
hand dyed felt and various Stampotique heads.

I added wiggly eyes to the three in a round.
Can't wait to see what you create!

Wickidz!

I have something very special for you today! It's a preview for the new Simply B Collection, the Wickidz. By Artist Alexander Landish!  Alexander always seems to be able to get Bettys concepts just right!  She's a big fan of his work and so asked him to do a few things for her in his style!  A bit darker than her own normal stuff, but still cute and quirky!  It was only fitting that the Beyond the Burtonesque Dolls work with the darker side of SBS. So the creepier images, the darker stuff, will be released through us. Our releases will be the last 2 days of the month, though this time around, we are starting it a day early.  SO let's get on with the show...
Here are the first 3 Wickidz.

Damien
Malice
Petunia
Be sure to check out all The Dolls creepy projects at
And be sure to come back tomorrow for
the final three reveals!

Goth it up!

Hi and welcome to another Beyond The Burtonesque Dolls Challenge.
This time it's a Double whammy,
Alter an item by Gothing up a cute image.

I altered this little picture frame with a Gothed up image
of Alice. It's an image by Danita available from Crescendoh

So now it's your turn! What are you going to alter?
What cute thing are you going to blacken and creep out??? We can't wait to see!

We have decided to change things up a bit. The first Tuesday of the month
we are going to have you make any kind of project you want,
as long as it follows the parameters of the challenge.
The third Tuesday of the month, will be an altered item challenge...
so that means no cards, scrapbook pages, etc.
You've gotta alter something, that falls in line with that challenge.
Also, every once and a while, Ms. Betty Boo is going to have we Dolls
do some very special releases for her. These will happen on the
last 2 days of the month. We won't have releases here every month,
but I will tell you that March will have a release!
So be on the lookout and spread the word!

We're Baaack!

Yes, The Dolls are back and we
have a super fun challenge for you.
Our challenge today at Beyond The Burtonesque Dolls
is nice and simple...
Re-create your favorite Fairy Tale,
but give it a wicked, grunge, funky, fun, and scary Twist!  Simple yeah?
The prize for this will be a Guest DT spot... and next time around
we will be releasing a new DIGI line! Whoohoo!
Yep SBS style of course and it will be Awesome!

The challenge starts today and will go through February 28th!
The winner will be announced with our next Challenge on March 6th.
You can use any image from any company!
Our challenges will start to run on a bi-weekly
basis starting March 6th!

I really had a lot of fun ideas for this one, but finally
settled on THE SCARY MERMAID!

Creepy isn't she? I finally got to use one of those
creepy mermaids by Daniel Torrente for Stampotique.

SO get your images out, get your favorite Fairy Tale book out,
and get to altering it your way!

Hooray for Santa Claus!

It's time for another fun Beyond the Burtonesque Dolls Challenge
and this time its Alternative Christmas films.

One of my favorite Christmas movies is this
quirky little movie about martians that kidnap
Santa Claus. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is the name.
I remember watching this movie as a kid
and thinking wow this is really weird.
The acting is bad the props are bad but it's a fun 60's movie.
And the best thing about the movie for me
is the song Hooray for Santa Claus.
If you have never heard it before listen to it

I used this cute little martian from Tiddly Inks,
he's called Come in Cuteness.
I added the text and the Santa hat.
Can't wait to see your creations.

Repo the Genetic Opera Vs The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Two truly off the wall, rock operas, both great fun, and very different.

I went with Rocky Horror, to tell you the truth I have never
seen either of these films. I have seen bits of Rocky Horror though.
But when I heard of this challenge I immediately

So here she is Delores D'ammage,
all Rocky Horrored out!

Kids are Scary!

It's time for another fun challenge at Beyond The Burtonesque Dolls Challenge
This fortnight we're not focusing on any one person or film in particular; instead,
we want to see your creations inspired by either scary kids or scary kids' films.

I could not resist using my FAVORITE Scary Kids
Lock, Shock and Barrel from TNBC.

I made something other than a card, it's a small canvas.
I even pulled out the crackle paint for this one.
Can't wait to see your SCARY KID creations!

Time Bandit!

This week at Beyond The Burtonesque Dolls
We are celebrating the Art and Works of
Terry Gilliam.
Terry Gilliam, is a wonderful Artist/Animator, Actor, and Director.
I'm sure many of you will know him from the Monty Python team,
but since then he's directed some of the most fantastical fantasy films ever made.
The Challenge is to Create a Card/Project based on any of Terry Gilliam's Work.

The Design Team has come up with some wonderfully
Fun creations, so be sure to check them all out.
To be honest with you I personally am not too familiar
with his work. I have only seen Time Bandits, way back
in the 80's. I remember it being a fun crazy movie.
So I was inspired to make a Time Bandit.

For my Time Bandit I used Steampunk Boy by The Octopode
Factory and the clock is from Smeared Ink.

Can't wait to see your creations!

Beyond the Burtonesque Dolls

Welcome to Beyond the Burtonesque Dolls.  If you love the work of Tim Burton, and enjoyed the challenges over at The Burtonesque Dolls then you'll like it here.  All the forthcoming challenges will have a 'Burtonesque' feel to them, although they may have no direct link to the works of Tim Burton.  The whole idea of this blog is to widen the challenges, maybe introduce you to films, books and directors that you've not heard of before. It's all about fun, maybe a little quirky and twisted fun, but still fun.

For our first challenge we have chosen a very broad theme;

'Halloween' we want you to create a card/project inspired by your favourite Halloween film, book or memory.

You can use images from any company you wish, and you can create a digital project if you wish,
it's all for fun, so no limitations,
just make sure you respect the copyright of the artists out there.

Don't forget to tell us what inspired your creation,
that's all part of the fun.
My creation was inspired by a Halloween childhood memory.
Every year my mom would put a paper skeleton on our front door
and I was really scared of him at night. I told my mom
that I could hear him talking to me.
I was afraid he would come and get me. That skeleton
started my love for anything fun and cute Halloween
but nothing too scary.

Here he is...
The skeleton is from an awesome Tim Holtz set by
Stampers Anonymous. Retro Halloween.

Can't wait to see your scary or not so scary creations.
